MY JOURNEY

My journey as the Executive Chairman of the Ikoyi- Obalende Local Council Development Area (LCDA) started 3 years ago and I am proud of what my team and I have achieved. I am also grateful for the support from the people of Ikoyi-Obalende, as well as other stakeholders who have made our tenure successful so far.

We have had the opportunity to serve and birth projects that are beneficial to our LCDA. We have focused our efforts on 5 key areas aligning them to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Healthcare, Education, Empowerment, Infrastructure and Environment with Gender Equality and Partnerships serving as cross-cutting themes across each key area. We were determined to identify the most inclusive projects within these 5 focus areas, to ensure we improve the lives of the people of Ikoyi- Obalende LCDA and most importantly, that we leave no one behind.

We have increased life expectancy and improved healthcare in the community through the provision of 2 primary health and maternity care facilities. We have also seen an increase in the educational performance and overall outcome of school students in the community. We strongly believe in the potential of our children as the next generation of leaders and we made sure they had better learning conditions by conducting school renovation projects across the community, in addition to supporting over 3,482 pupils with our Back to School project over the years.

In the area of empowerment, my administration has supported over 3,000 residents through our skills acquisition, training and grant programs. We provided access to business capital and work tools like grinding machines, freezers, generators, amongst others. This has catalyzed more self-employment opportunities and better means to generate income for residents in the community, with women representing majority of the beneficiaries as we promote gender equality.

In the area of Infrastructure development, we have continued to embark on road rehabilitation projects, structural renovations and provision of essential amenities like water, streetlights, toilets and sanitation facilities, to improve the quality of life of residents and visitors of Ikoyi-Obalende. Also, in striving to keep our environment clean, we have strategically partnered with Waste Collection and Recycling companies who are tasked with cleaning and managing waste collection in the community

With the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic, my administration responded swiftly with support from private sector partners and the State Government by providing palliatives to over 10,000 residents in the community who were badly affected due to the lockdown. In addition to the palliative package, we also provided a daily food bank serving cooked food to those unable to afford food over a 14-day period, where we fed over 1000 residents daily. We have also ramped up environmental sanitation, decontamination, and other effective measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19. We have worked closely with health agencies and other regulatory bodies to make sure all stipulated actions to prevent the spread are enforced and abided by the people of Ikoyi-Obalende LCDA.

I will like to use this opportunity to appreciate everyone who has supported me on this journey. First, the leaders of my party, APC, our community and traditional leaders that continue to share their wisdom and provide support. I am also grateful to our private sector partners who continue to support me to deliver on our vision and promise for the people of our community. We are not done yet but this report is our attempt to outline our key achievements over the last three years to showcase our accountability to the mandate of the people and I am convinced that we are on the right path to creating a future the people of Ikoyi-Obalende will be proud of. We remain committed to continue serving and we plan to LEAVE NO ONE BEHIND… Our moment, Our future!
